Pretoria, 5th January, 2023

The bulk of the Pretoria Capitals squad has convened in the city ahead of the highly anticipated Betway SA20 set to start in less than a week.

The Capitals had their first training session at Centurion Park on Tuesday, 3 January; guided by Head Coach Graham Ford, and included captain Wayne Parnell, home grown Shaun von Berg and international Josh Little, amongst others.

There was an energy of excitement at training following the Christmas and New Year break and the team are looking forward to get started in the competition.

Head coach Graham Ford explained how the first training session went. “I think everybody is very excited, for the first time out we had a really good session! The facilities are great and we were all keen to start training and we got a lot of good work done.”

Ford and his troops will want to build on the momentum from the positive training session, and are well aware of the amount of work that will be required to ensure they are ready come their first game on 12 January.

Batter, Cameron Delport reflected with excitement after Tuesday’s training session. “It was nice to have a long session, the boys are happy are looking sharp as we build up to the first game.”

With the team getting together for the first time on Monday there were some introductions that’s took place at the hotel before the players got a first look at one anothers skills on the field.

“The boys got together and we all introduced ourselves and got to meet the staff. You get a bit nervous sometimes because you don’t know a few of the guys but you get to know them and how they work and it’s always exciting to build a new squad.” Delport elaborated.

While the SA20 is a huge occasion it is also new experience for a lot of the members of the squad and it will be important for the players to enjoy themselves and gain as much as they can form their involvement.
