Biography

An aggressive right-hand batter, who can also bowl right-arm at medium pace, Theunis possesses the ability to hit the ball sweet and high. Choosing cricket over a stable and secure Chartered Accountant job, Theunis has come a long way in his cricketing journey.

His breakthrough season came with the Titans in 2014/15 where he emerged as their highest run-getter thereby contributing immensely to Titans being crowned champions in the One-Day campaign. De Bruyn made an instant impact in an unofficial Test for South Africa A against England Lions in 2015, where he scored a sizzling double hundred against a bowling setup that comprised the likes of Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett and Boyd Rankin. De Bruyn received his maiden cap for the Proteas in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2017.

A few months later, he received his Test call-up as well against Pakistan. Theunis’ first Test hundred came against Pakistan in July 2018, where he struck a crucial 101. He has over 10000 career runs across his terrific domestic and short International career.
