Biography
Oh Captain! Our Captain! An aggressive southpaw, who can go wild with the bat as well as the ball and has the ability to turn around a game at any moment, Parnell will be leading the Pretoria Capitals in the first edition of the SA20.
Parnell’s first major breakthrough came in 2008, when he led South Africa to the final of the U-19 World Cup, where they finished second. The left-arm seamer finished the tournament on a high, picking up 18 wickets.
After a series of good performances, Parnell was called up to the ODI squad in early 2009 and later became the youngest player to be awarded a contract by Cricket South Africa. In the World T20 2009, Parnell had an impressive outing, scalping nine wickets at an economy just below six.
Despite injuries coming in his way, Parnell has grown to be a crucial part of the South African set-up over the years, with over 100 caps across all formats and over 150 wickets under his belt for the rainbow nation. In February 2022, Parnell was named the captain of Western Province in the 2022 CSA T20 Challenge.
